A Reflection on Surrender
I keep repeating the phrase, “The tasks will get done,” to myself over and over these first few weeks post-partum. That, and my mom-in-law’s voice still echoes in my head from her first visit when we got home from the hospital: “The dust bunnies can wait.”
The hardest part about having Johnny by FAR is how everything takes me at least three times as long—even writing this is taking forever as I punch my keyboard with one hand (he's finally asleep on me). I told Peter yesterday that some days I start cooking dinner in the late morning because I never know how long it’ll take.
But these days are precious. And as I watch orders blessedly trickle in and then sit for a few days, waiting for a window of time that I can hurriedly fulfill them, or as dishes accumulate in the sink and laundry piles up, I remind myself that eventually, the tasks WILL get done. Maybe not in this moment or today or in the manner that I would like them to (which is so hard for this chronic hustler).
But I think it’s a reminder how the Lord responds to our prayers—even THIS particular desire that we prayed and prayed for over three years. Time can’t be reigned in and harnessed when it comes to babies OR prayer. We have to again and again surrender our timelines.
So if you’re wondering why your order isn’t arriving within three days, it’s because it’s coming from a literal place of surrender. And if you’re wondering why your prayer hasn’t been answered yet, maybe the Lord is inviting you to that very same place.
